Good posture puts your body in the ideal alignment to function at its best.
Proper posture minimizes joint pain by equalizing the stress load of muscles and joints used in daily movements such as driving, prolonged sitting and using a computer or laptop.
Good posture also will mean better exercise performance, since the body will be properly aligned.
■ Stand with a staggered stance holding an exercise band with both hands.
■ With arms straight, hold the exercise band in front of you with your hands slightly lower than your shoulders. Keep elbows slightly soft to avoid hyperextending the joint.
■ Exhale and extend arms out to the sides. Focus on shoulder blades sliding back together.
■ Inhale as you slowly bring arms back to starting position.
■ Do 2 sets of 12 to 15 repetitions. As you repeat, make sure to avoid arching your spine or pushing your rib cage forward.
